About:

Prof Wesley Doorsamy completed the MSc. Degree in Electrical Engineering, in 2012, and PhD degree in Engineering, in 2015, at the University of the Witwatersrand. He joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology at the University of Johannesburg in 2016, as a Senior Lecturer. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019; and was seconded to one of the University of Johannesburg’s flagship institutes – the Institute for Intelligent Systems – in January 2020, where he is currently based. He has also obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (with Distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand, and the Graduate Diploma in Data Science from the University of London. He is an Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), a Senior Member of the South African Institute for Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), and a member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In 2021, he was awarded the National Research Foundation Rating in the Young Researcher Category. Prof Doorsamy has expertise in condition monitoring and diagnostics, computational intelligence, analytics and optimization, and he has interdisciplinary research interests in different application areas including, inter alia, healthcare, power and energy, finance, agriculture, leading to the development of innovative technologies.
